Story
We’re raising money to keep our synchronised swimming club open for all women.
Our group challenge is to swim 180km by 31 January 2026.
17 Mermaids, 6000 lengths, and 2 months to do it!
Joyful, sociable and fun
Bramley Mermaids Club is the only synchronised swimming club in Yorkshire that’s open to all women, of all abilities.
Doesn’t matter if you've never tried it before. All you need is a cozzie and the feeling you'd like to get in the water!
We don’t compete. We collaborate with each other to create beautiful dance routines.
Our Mermaid Trainers Lucy and Zoe have years of experience helping women find confidence in their bodies in the water.
We learn skills and techniques in our classes.
We perform artistic swimming routines to show the world Yorkshire women are here to be seen and celebrated.
You don't need to change your body to wear a swimming costume. You can swim just as you are, and look fabulous doing it too
Why we’re doing this swim challenge
We’re inspired by the incredible achievement of Diana Nyad, who swam 180km from Cuba to Florida. It was her fifth attempt. She was 64 years old. She did it in 53 hours.
Her achievement is a testimony to the power of women, and women’s friendships - she couldn’t have done it without her best friend and partner, Bonnie Stoll.
Diana Nyad didn't want to waste her one wild and precious life. And neither do we!
Together we're swimming the same distance, 180km, and we’re doing it over 2 months.
17 Mermaids, all contributing to the group challenge.
Cheering us on will help us keep going when it gets tough

Why Bramley Mermaids Club is fundraising
It’s expensive to run a synchronised swimming club.
We pay for the pool and the expertise of our Mermaid Trainers. Yorkshire Life Aquatic and Bramley Baths show amazing goodwill and generosity, but it’s still expensive.
We charge participants £6.50 to keep it affordable. We rely on funding from grants and donations to subsidise the true cost.
Your sponsorship will help us continue to:
* Keep our sessions affordable and accessible for women who might otherwise miss out.
* Create a safe, friendly, and inclusive space where everyone is cherished
* Inspire women to overcome fears, discover their strength, and find joy in the water.
* Provide extra support for women with additional needs or going through a difficult life circumstance
* Offer low cost short courses or one off sessions in other pools in Yorkshire.
About us
We’ve each set ourselves personal targets that will challenge us.
The legal bit
Bramley Mermaids Club is not a registered charity, it is a community run group. All donations, including any amount over the target, will go to running ongoing Bramley Mermaids classes at Bramley Baths, plus performance costs, including costumes & travel - if we can take the Mermaids on tour, we will!
