What is crowdfunding?

Story
Over summer I will be completing a sponsored swim from Bournemouth to Boscombe Pier (1.4 miles) to raise money for both British Heart Foundation and National Youth Theatre.
My course fees are £740 for National Youth Theatre which currently I am struggling to pay hence why I'll be doing the sponsored swim. I will donate 50% of the donations to BHF and the rest will go towards my course fees so please give generously.
The swim is due to take place on the 14th July so I am swim training in between university and working.
