Story

Maritech break the ice for the homeless!

This month Maritech and Sea/ will be participating in The Break the Ice Challenge for Crisis, a charity our late Kay Blenard gave up a lot of time and effort to volunteer for.

Crisis is a national charity for homeless people. They help people directly out of homelessness and campaign for the changes needed to solve it altogether.

The Break the Ice Challenge runs from December through to March to represent the toughest winter months for rough sleepers. Homelessness is devastating for a person’s mental and physical health and winter can be the most dangerous time of year!

Maritech and Sea/ will be facing the freeze of the challenge from Tuesday 1st February. Claire Marshall, Head of Product for Broking Core will be first up by pledging to take an ice cold shower every day for the month of February. Supporting her from the 1st day will be Krishna Desai, Nikolay Rovdo & Ollie Buchanan

Each participant will donate to take part and nominate a colleague to participate and take the icy plunge! Whether that is taking a trip to the local lido for a freezing dip, camping out in the garden or starting a winter water fight, get involved and help end homelessness for good!

The Clarksons Foundation will be match funding the amount raise, this mean your donation will be double so dig deep! The money raised will be donated directly to the Crisis Croydon branch in which Kay was a volunteer.

• By donating £10 you can provide 3 hot meals for one on the streets

• By donating £50 you can help someone regain a sense of worth through healthcare and counselling

• By donating £100, you can ensure support, training and equipment are in place to help someone find their way back to employment

You do not need to be participating in the challenge to donate so please use the link below to play your part in ending homelessness.

The money raised will go directly towards a Kiln for Croydon Skylight Crisis centre which is used for the homeless members therapeutic arts of ceramics and pottery classes. These classes prove extremely popular with members who are able to develop new creative skills whilst their confidence, self esteem and trust in others begins to grow again, in a safe calm and friendly learning environment. At the moment, members work has to be transported to an external kiln for firing, which means there are often quite long delays between the work being made and the members seeing it again.
