Dogs Across Borders - Brenda's Story

This is Kara Kiz or Brenda as we know her!! She was found unconscious in a street in Guzelyurt. She was in a very poor condition and very dehydrated but with fluids she rallied! She was also suffering from a uterus infection and Ehrlichia. She received the necessary treatment and recovered but it soon became apparent that she was blind.

The voluntary group who rescued her tried to rehome her but no home was found. Sadly, she has now been living in a kennel for over a year. Volunteers who kindly give up their time to walk the dogs in the kennel also walk Brenda when they visit each week. She is a little nervous with all the initial excitement but she soon settles down for her walk. She has never been given a chance to live in a home environment and have the love that will make her feel safe. She is approx 3 years old and is friendly and affectionate.

To our joy, someone is interested in giving Brenda a loving home but the volunteers arranging her travel have run out of the funds needed to prepare her to fly to her new home.

On hearing about Brenda and other dogs like her, myself and a group of friends decided that we must help. Being animal lovers and members of cycling clubs, we will be cycling from Kyrenia to Limassol (via Mount Olympus and over the Troodos mountains) and back (148km/3,192m ascent) between the 18th and 19th November 2017. This North South Coast to Coast is a massive challenge for us but compared to those faced by Brenda, this is somewhat small.

Sadly, this is a very familiar situation in Cyprus but volunteers across the nationalities living here are working hard to bring about positive change for the future. Please help Brenda and other dogs with similar stories to have a normal home life with people who will love them unconditionally. Your very kind sponsorship/donations to our cycle challenge will turn such sad beginnings into very happy endings.
