Story

My story:

In January this year my step father was taken into hospital as he was very unwell and had sever signs of jaundice. They kept him in hospital and after weeks of tests and scans he was diagnosed with Ampullary Cancer, Ampullary cancer (Pancreatic Cancer), or ampullary carcinoma, is a cancer that forms in a body part called the ampulla of Vater. The ampulla of Vater is a small opening that enters into the first portion of the small intestine, known as the duodenum. The ampulla of Vater is the spot where the pancreatic and bile ducts release their secretions into the intestines. The procedure to remove the tumour is called Whipples, and is a complex operation to remove the head of the pancreas, the first part of the small intestine (duodenum), the gallbladder and the bile duct. Unfortunately due to my step father’s age and the time delays in identifying the cause, he is unable to have this procedure, so is receiving chemo therapy which he is having different severe reactions to and keeps ending back in hospital and the Bourgs Hospice.

On Saturday the 15th I will be taking part in the Guernsey Long Distance Running Clubs 24 hour Ultra Marathon at Footes Lane, where I will aim to run at least a marathon distance on the track. Then on October the 7th I will be running the Jersey Marathon and have set up this just giving page to raise money to buy some chairs for the Brock Ward, as when my step father is in there he along with other patients like to sit up in a comfy chair as opposed to lying in their beds.

Unfortunately the ward has a shortage of these chairs and I would like to buy them some more as a thank you for all the caring and wonderful work they do 24 7 for people like my step dad.

Therefore the funds from this just giving page will be used to purchase these chairs and these will be presented to the staff on Brock Ward for their patients to use.

Thanks for reading my story and I hope that you can give generously.
