Story

Joanna Shallcross, the owner and lead coach at the ever-popular health and fitness gym The Barn, is an inspiration to all who know her. Selfless with her time and energy, every day Jo makes a real difference to the lives of the numerous children and adults she comes into contact with, irrespective of their ability or talent.

Joanna has a particular passion for working with children with disabilities. Her mission is to enable them to see that they are capable of so much more and to help them realise their dreams. Joanna also spends a great deal of time fund raising so that they can experience a wide variety of sports. Earlier this year she organised a fully funded bus trip to the Manchester Para Athlete Taster Day, with team clothing and bags for all competitors. This is in addition to Joanna organising a truly inspiring annual Children's Disability Triathlon at the David Lloyd Centre.

In her ‘free’ time, when not dealing with her large family of five children, and all her other commitments, she trains for long distance triathlons. In October last year she won her age group section in the Ironman Wales Triathlon to qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in October 2018. Joanna is hoping to complete this race in 10 hours in the blazing heat and strong winds, which is sure to place her amongst the world’s very best in the 40 - 44 year-old division.

The funding target is purely for Joanna's entry fee, travel and accommodation costs. Any surplus will fund disabled children's activities.
