Story
It’s coming up to 10 years since my sister and I lost our bother Terry to cancer. Terry, or Golden Boy, as we often referred to him {as my dad thought the sun shone out his a....e} Terry was diagnosed with a lung tumour in the early part of the year and sadly by July he had succumbed to this debilitating and sadly terminal illness. Terry was a lovely person, always ready to help anyone that needed his help. He was always happy with his lot, especially his three sons, Darren, Linden and Jamie who he sadly left behind.
It was devastating to be called on holiday, surrounded by family and friends, for him to tell us his test results. I remember feeling unable to comprehend what he was telling us that it was terminal with months to live.
Terry spent his final days at the St Johns hospice at Moggerhanger in Bedfordshire. St Johns is part of the Sue Ryder trust who’s staff provided nothing but the most compassionate, dedicated and caring support, not only for Terry but to my family who were struggling to cope with the inevitable loss. Throughout it all I was always humbled and touched by the extraordinary compassion and understanding that the staff possessed. Sadly despite everyone’s best efforts Terry passed away peacefully one summers day.
My sister and I are therefore looking to cycle from Vietnam to Cambodia to raise funds to support St Johns and allow them to provide to others the compassionate and personal care they provided to Terry and my family.
As we have self-funded this, including badly fitting lycra and anti-chaffing cream all of your money will go to St John’s. I know money is tight for everyone but if you could please dig deep to help Ann and myself support the trust we would be truly grateful.
On behalf of Ann, myself and most of all Terry, many thanks for taking the time to read this.
