Story
Better transplants for more patients.
Traditionally, a kidney for transplant is kept in ice which limits time for surgeons to operate. Once in the recipient it can take 3 days before it begins to work. The new Perfusion machine keeps the organ 'alive' much longer by pumping warm blood through it prior to the operation. Once in situ the organ starts working almost immediately. This is producing better quality results and will increase the number of patients who benefit.
