WHAT THE TRIP IS ABOUT

OpWall takes around 16 students per school from a range of schools and universities and the students volunteer with the conservation scientists collecting data on different species of plants and animals. Then on evenings we go to lectures where we are taught about the ecosystem and learn all about environmental science. Also whilst we are in Madagascar we are taught how to handle animals and insects safely so that we can examine them without causing any harm. I will be taken to Madagascar for 2 weeks and there I will aid scientists in collecting data about all the species in Madagascar. We spend the first week in a camp in the forest in an area called Mahamavo in this part of the trip we look at the types of plants and land animals such as lemurs and reptiles such as chameleons, we also visit the local school so we can see how life is in Madagascar for the children that live there this will be an amazing opportunity to learn about the difference in culture. in the second week we go to Nosey Bay which has one of the worlds best coral reef sites there we are taught how to scuba dive and we collect data on the fish and coral in the reef and we learn about coral preservation and how vital coral is to our ecosystem and how our actions effect the coral.

This trip will improve me and my life because it offers a chance for me to develop a wide range personal skills such as independence, perseverance, team work and confidence. these skills will be beneficial to my future as they will aid me in later life from working in a group in new jobs to living alone at university. I also think that it will challenge me to live without the comforts that we have in the UK.The 2020 Madagascar trip will be an incredibly beneficial to my future, I love the sciences and I am taking all three sciences for A-level. I also have a massive interest in biology so this trip would really aid my learning and enable me to further my knowledge about conservation biology. Hopefully I will go on to study the sciences at university and this trip would elevate my CV drastically as it involves a lot of work dedication and teamwork skills . I think that this trip will give me a different type of experience of biology (one that I will not be able to obtain anywhere else). I also think that this will make a difference to how I view life now and make me reflect what is important in life and what we can live without, I think it will make me appreciate the world that I live in. finally this trip will be a chance for me to help save one of the worlds natural beauty spots from destruction and I can learn not only how to save nature in Madagascar but also learn how to save it at home.
