Story
Welcome to Bridge The Gap!
Created to help prevent suicide on our local bridges. Launched on Saturday 9th June 2018
The first bridge we have decorated is the blue road bridge that crosses the M67 on Halton Street, Hyde. This is a known "hot spot" for people wanting to end their lives at at least three people have done so in recent times. I have been in the same dark place as these people but luckily I'm still here to share my story.
It's time to give back and help to "Bridge The Gap" in mental health treatment and awareness. I'm aiming for these messages to be made more permanent, then hopefully once this bridge is complete I will move on to others.
All the signs have bee hand written, i think this is more likely to have a positive impact on a person in needs as it shows that the messages are personal & from the heart.
The signs that were placed on the bridge last week (09/06/2018) had already started to fade, look tatty and go missing, so these have already been removed and replaced with new laminated messages and secured to the bridge with tie-wraps. These should be able to cope with the wind & rain a lot. better
With your donations, we want to be able to expand this campaign to other bridges, so the money will be used to purchase more material initially. Beyond that, it's difficult to tell at moment. We have only been doing this for a week and the response has been amazing and greatly surpassed our expectation. We have already been contacted by many well known organisations who want us to work with them or would like to support Bridge the Gap.
We would also like to acknowledge the amazing support of local people who have offered help and donations and who have asked for this page to be created so they can show their support by giving us a donation, so here it is.
Lastly, for now anyway, we would like to thank GM Police for the huge amount of support they gave us over the last year and also helped to decorate the first bridge.
Thank you x
