Story

The Balfour food bank was set up and run by the wonderful Natasha as a response to the Covid-19 crisis. It was initially set up for Balfour families but with the help of extremely generous donations it expanded to help families across the city. When the children returned to school and Natasha returned to work full time as a teacher other Brighton & Hove Mutual Aid volunteers were delighted to take this on as one of our food projects. We were offered a spacious base at Knoyle Hall, part of St John’s Church in Knoyle Road, until the end of December. We have now completed our move to the cosy but welcoming St Peter's cricket pavilion in Preston Park until the cricket season starts. We have the same ethos of referral not needed and no eligibility questions asked although we are able to signpost people to other support if appropriate. We continue to provide food to 35+ families; in addition we will be supplying a few comfort items for staff working in ITU. We are so very grateful for all donations of space, food, essential supplies and money.
