I've raised £1500 to Raise ££ for Sandwick Boating Club. A 24-hour sail-a-thon on the Brindister Loch, 50% of all donations will got to the MRI Scanner Appeal

We are raising funds to purchase two mirror dinghies for the Sandwick Boating Club, modernising our ageing fleet. The Sandwick Boating Club has been in existence since 1896, offering bairns and adults alike the opportunity to take part in water-based activites. The club has evolved through the years, and now primarily focuses on the provision of sail training for local children between the ages of 10-18 years. In a world of electronic entertainment, we place real value in getting children active and outdoors, learning a respect for the sea, and, most importantly, having fun!
We have set ourselves the challenge of sailing some of our existing mirror dinghy fleet on the Brindister Loch, for 24 hours, from 3pm on Saturday 15th June, until 3pm on Sunday 16th June. We welcome and appreciate your financial support and warmly welcome any spectators on the day! 50% of all proceeds raised will go to help the Shetland MRI Scanner Appeal.
Shetland MRI Scanner Appeal;
Over 600 patients from Shetland must travel south to have an MRI scan each year. MRI diagnostics are used to diagnose and monitor a wide variety of conditions and the number of patients who need them is steadily increasing.
There can be delays in getting an MRI scan due to bad weather, transport delays and logistical problems in getting short notice appointments or one stop clinics. There is also the challenge of making the journey itself, which can involve time off work, and impact on family life and child care at an already difficult time. Through a combination of grant funding and a public fundraising campaign, the Shetland Health Board Endowment Fund aims to raise £2 million for an MRI Scanner located at the Gilbert Bain. Shetland could have its own MRI scanner, so that scans could be done here and sent to the same specialists who analyse them now.
