Story
The Maggie's Penguin Parade has become a major public art attraction over the summer of 2018. The 80 penguin sculptures have attracted visitors from outside the city and encouraged locals to become tourists in their home city. Pupils at the High School of Dundee fundraised for, designed and painted the Blue Planet Penguin. The penguin design was inspired by Sir David Attenborough's documentary series Blue Planet II. It conveys an important environmental message, encouraging people to look after our planet.
On 24th September 2018 the 80 penguins, including Blue, will be auctioned off at the new V&A Museum. The money raised will go towards the Maggie's Centre, which costs £540,000 per year to run. The Maggie's Centre provides free physical, social and emotional support to those living with cancer and their families.
The school would like to bid for the Blue Planet Penguin to support this worthy cause and to ensure the Oor Wullie sculpture in our reception has a penguin friend to keep him company!
*Please note, any money donated will be given to the Maggie's Centre regardless of if we manage to secure the penguin or not.
