Story

On the 18th May 2018, Love birds Mike Lancaster & Jemma Louise Dodds along with their daughter Scarlett from Blackpool were extremely excited to find out their 21 week old healthy bun in the oven was to be a baby boy due on October 3rd which they announced on Facebook much to the delight of lots of close friends and family.

Having been cleared for travel from the doctors, the happy family travelled on the 19th May to Alicante, Spain to relax in a villa with relatives for two sunny weeks.

Just over one week of much needed relaxing, quality family time had passed by until Monday 28th when Mike had to rush Jemma to the local spannish hospital for pain and some bleeding.

Despite a difficult language barrier on both sides, Jemma was being seen too by hospital nurses whilst Mike endlessly waited for hours upon hours with no news and minimal information. Eventually later that evening Mike was able to spend some time with Jemma to which he discovered his partner was going through early labour but waters had not broken.

The following morning at 1030 the couple were advised to go back to the villa to try relax and speed up the process, by 1900 that evening Jemma was back at the hospital with contractions starting again in which the doctors stopped. Everything had become a difficult and mentally draining situation one that could do no other than wait it out.

The panic of, how long will we be here? What about Scarlett? Is our baby boy going to be ok? Mike frantically speaking with the insurance company to ensure the appropriate help required will be provided. Just four of the many unimaginable thoughts going through both Jemmas & Mikes heads.

30th May 2018, 10am. Jemmas waters had broken, the doctors took her for a scan and took bloods in which they had to await results, confirmation that their baby boy was alive was provided. By 1630 that afternoon doctors confirmed Jemma had an infection in the womb in which they provided medication to begin the labour process.

At 17:56 the same day, Baby Ollie Logan Lancaster was born at 22 weeks weighing 14.06oz. "Heavens gained a new prince, after days of fighting you was clearly far too precious for this world. Mummy, Daddy and big sister Scarlett love you forever and always baby" - Jemma. "You are my little something, its like you came from nothing but now you are everything to me. Sleep well our little prince. We will love you always. Heaven now has a new angel" - Mike.

I am Kevin Hamilton, Mike became a collegue of mine in January 2017. I have been teaching & guiding him in our line of work and he has been remarkable in which we have grown to become good friends since. I have received regular updates throughout these upsetting times and I have set out to help as much as I can in getting everyone home back to the UK including Baby Ollie Logan ASAP. (Their current return flight is this Saturday 2nd June).

I have researched frantically througout the night, and have discovered for Baby Ollie to be repatriated to the UK he must be embalmed by a funeral director within 48 hours - along with many other stringent regulations to comply with both Spanish Law & English Law.

Their travel insurance company will only asses the situation once they have received hospital documentation, however the hospital wont issue the documentation until Jemma has been discharged. Assesing the situation doesnt necessarily mean they will receive the assistance required, a quick google search shows that many insurance companies fail to pay out for repatriation in the event of death abroad.

I fear for Mike, Jemma & Scarlett there will be a big delay when time is of the essance they will be unable to have a final fairwell funeral with all friends and family with a place to visit in Blackpool, UK unless we all can dig deep and help generously.

The PLAN and believe me it is SIMPLE - if we can all share with friends and family we can together do something good. Just whatever you can afford will go a long way!

The Steven Mears Group (link below) are the best and most established international repatriation company based here in the UK and will deal with everything, making this difficult time a little easier for Mike & Jemma. The cost on their website for repatriation from Alicante, Spain is £4,090.00, I am asking you all to please help them bring their baby boy back and donate upto £5000.00 to cover all eventualities.

Having carried out my research this evening/this morning, in all aspects of deaths abroad. I have discovered there is very minimal information availble for situations like this, albiet Baby Ollie Logan is very unique the help and support available is minimal. Therefore, should any further donations be received I think its only right this money should go to 'Sands - Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity' to help raise further awareness.

Should the insurance company pay out, its only right all raised money goes to 'Sands Charity'.

We are against time, the clock is ticking and lets face it - even when our return home flights get delayed a little we get grumpy and anxious, just pause to think what Jemma & Mike are going through.

Please, lets together bring Baby Ollie Logan Lancaster home but lets get some money over to Sands as well.

Thank you
