Story

I first saw Maurie searching for food along Flic en Flac beach. I approached carefully some food in my hand and he backed away unsure of my intentions. You could tell like many other stray dogs that he had not always been met with the same kindness. Unfortunately this is not uncommon in Mauritius as the animal welfare system is appalling. Maurie was roaming the beaches and forced to beg for food and water from the locals. Despite being alone most of his life he had an incredibly sweet nature and all he wanted from us was love and attention. As my holiday was coming to an end I had to make the heart breaking decision to leave Maurie behind but I wasted no time in reaching out for help to bring him home with me to the UK.

After doing some research I was shocked and appalled to discover that dogs like Maurie are picked up from the beaches and killed every day. They use workers from the government funded Mauritius society for Animal Welfare (MSAW) who violently catch a large number of dogs. The workers take them to a facility in Port Louis where they hold the dogs in place on the ground whilst administering a hit or miss lethal injection without anaesthetic in an attempt to puncture the heart. This means that the poor dogs suffer a long, slow and painful death.

I am desperately trying to save Maurie from a similar fate as these other poor strays. I am trying to raise money as quickly as possible in order for me to pay for his flight and medicals bills for him to come home to live with me in the UK. I have already found a non profit charity called PAWS Rescue and care who have agreed to put Maurie in temporary foster care until I am able to raise the money for his flight home. Please give what you can so I can give Maurie the bright future that this sweet and loving dog deserves.

Please donate whatever you can spare so that Maurie and I can be reunited once again. Thank you for taking the time to read our plight.
