Story

Brixworth Parish Council have recently adopted a Green Framework to help it achieve climate action targets over the coming years. As part of this, through the work of the Brixworth Climate Action group (BCAG), a plan has been drawn up to redevelop the Spratton Road Recreation Park and convert it to a Wellbeing Park. The aim is to transform a relatively unused area into an attractive place where residents of all ages can enjoy leisure and exercise, relaxation and reflection. It will help us create a biodiverse space, where wild flowers, a community orchard, fruit bushes and herbs will help create a sensory experience. It will also continue to provide a space for children to play safelywellbeing and be a focal point for safe exercise and village events.

Most people agree that the wellbeing of all ages in Brixworth needs to be a high priority and creating a Wellbeing Park on Spratton Road will be a fantastic addition to the village facilities. This is expected to cost around £25,000 and The Parish Council has already allocated funds to begin this three year project. The first phase of the Brixworth Community Orchard was planted in November 2023 on the Holcot Road and the orchard in the Wellbeing Park was planted in March. Other sites in the village, for the orchard, will be developed over the coming years.

We aim to create a walkway, with shrub and herb gardens. We also want to install an outdoor gym to enable residents to exercise in their free time. As part of our community orchard, apple, pear, plum and cherry trees will provide free fruit which will be there for our future generations to pick and eat. Seats and picnic benches will complement the children’s play area and provide places where everyone can come and enjoy outdoor rest and relaxation. We also want to make it a wildlife space where butterflies and birds, so vital for our well-being and the future of our planet, will be attracted by the wildflowers growing there.

We want to give everyone a chance to be part of this exciting development for the community and are looking to make this happen as soon as possible. We are applying for grants but we also want to give the village residents and organisations a chance to be part of this by donating though this ‘Just Giving Page’. By donating you will be part of a legacy facility for the village for years to come.

How can you help by ‘Just Giving’

Donations, no matter how small, can help us achieve this. To give you some idea of what your donation can help us buy, here are some suggestions:

£3 - £10 will help us buy wildflower seeds and planting mats

£5 - £10 will help us buy a herb

£15 - £20 will help us buy a shrub or fruit bush to attract insects , birds and butterflies

£50 will help us buy an ornamental flowering tree

£50 - £75 will help us buy a fruit tree

In addition, small donations will help us to purchase Hedgehog houses, Bug hotels, Nest boxes and bat boxes

People sometimes like to remember a relative or friend by planting a tree or siting a memorial bench. We are more than happy to allow you to do this in the Wellbeing Park. Should you like to donate in this way, please contact the Parish Clerk to discuss it.

Some people may prefer to donate their valuable time. As much of this work will be done by a group of volunteers, anyone who wishes to do this, can contact the Parish Clerk for more details.

Thank you for reading this and we hope you will support this venture by clicking the link and making your donation.
