Story
In lieu of the London Marathon that should have been happening on Sunday 26th April, I am going to attempt to row a full marathon on the indoor rower in my garage!
Starting at midday 26th April I am going to attempt to row a total of just over 26 miles or 42,195 meters in one go.
I would be grateful for any donations you can make to support Broadfield Ward at Haywood Hospital.
Broadfield Ward offers inpatient rehabilitation for patients with brain injury. Together the team work to improve the many physical, cognitive, communicative and psychosocial problems that may arise as a result of a brain injury. Rehabilitation after brain injury is complex and recovery requires early, intense rehabilitation and the team at Broadfield ward work hard to give patients their independence back.
Carla, my better half sustained a severe head and brain injury in December 2017. After four months of acute treatment Carla was transferred to Broadfield Ward for intensive rehabilitation. When Carla arrived she still had part of her skull removed, was bed bound and could not move her left side or even sit up. Amongst other issues she had serious problems with her cognitive functions, vision, speech, memory and fatigue. Over the 5 months Carla spent at Broadfield with the help of a terrific team and her own sheer will and determination she slowly regained use of her left side and went from being bed bound to walking with a frame and then eventually a stick. Different teams worked on her cognitive issues and speech, vision and memory and these also slowly improved. Carla was discharged home at the end of July 2018 and is still recovering well at home.
The team at Broadfield worked tirelessly with Carla, grinding out improvements and never gave up. Carla spent five months there and the team became part of our family. We owe so much to this close knit team, in no uncertain terms, they gave Carla her life back.
