Story

The Cause:

Capall Dorcha Theatre Company is a local not-for-profit social enterprise based in Ardrossan. Did you know that adults and children living in North Ayrshire have statistically the lowest cultural attendance in the whole of Scotland?

Capall Dorcha Theatre Company founded in 2015 has successful started to increase these numbers with over 200- patrons attending one of our small theatre performances in the West of Scotland and through ‘Ensemble’, our educational outreach programme, we have created a series of professional development educational workshops, visiting North Ayrshire and Arran schools and including a week long workshop free of charge to allow young people to work with artists in their local area increasing arts participation in one of Scotland most deprived areas. To date over 2100 young people have participated in our workshops that have been free of charge to allow allowing any young person the equal opportunity to take part.

So why are you raising funds?

Last year we set up a Youth Board where young people told me what they wanted to take part in within theatre arts, I personally wanted to do something to support them, They told me they just want a chance to take part in the arts, and put on a show, and if we sold tickets could we keep that money to buy tickets to see as they quoted 'a real show' in Glasgow.

So, what I would like to do is raise funds to give to the youth board to make a decision on how best to support young people within the organisation for them to decide how that money is spent. For example, this year the board has decided how our professional development workshop should run and how best to engage with young people.

For me its about doing theatre differently and putting young people at the heart of our organisation to become both social and cultural entrepreneurs become the future generation supporting our local communities.

Example of Spending:

£170 – free workshop for up to 60 young people

£240 – 20 tickets for young people to attend a show in Glasgow

£1310 – 540 young people take part in a theatre workshop in 11 locations in North Ayrshire.

£5370 – 40 young people take part in a 30-hour professional development workshop.

If 668 people donated £10 each to my campaign 580 young people could attend a workshop or week long professional development workshop with thanks to your support.

What I will do:

Currently I am in training to cycle the island of Arran! Yes, the whole island! The whole circular route which is approx. 57 miles and will take roughly 6hrs hours to complete.

Why support me?

I believe in the transformation that the arts can bring to a local community, for North Ayrshire and Ardrossan, where the organisation is based. I was lucky enough to train as an actor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, Wales. Which the local area helped support me in gaining my education in 2012. On returning I founded Capall Dorcha Theatre Company and have worked endlessly to give back to the community that invested in me. To which my aim is for more people in the local area can get involved and create theatre by doing theatre differently.

I appreciate you reading this page and if you want to join me or find out more information about the organisation or my cycle challenge do please get in touch.

Capall Dorcha Theatre Company is a company limited by guarantee SC503999 based in Scotland.
