Story

Brodie’s Trust is not currently a registered charity (we’re slowly working towards that) at present we are self funded small unregistered charity- two women, we are both IDVA’s and I’m also a Domestic Abuse & Bereavement counsellor.

We are run by women for women and remain dedicated to keeping our support that way as we grow.

We support women who have suffered pregnancy loss through domestic abuse or forced termination (this might be via coercive control or the administration of drugs without consent) I identified a need for this service when I went through my own losses, when I realised I wasn’t the only one (the statistics are really grim and its way more common than you‘d think!) **our 2018 study is available upon request**

Our mantra is that our women will be believed, supported & empowered.

Brodie‘s Trust is named after my little boy who I sadly lost in this way on 27th June 2017. I was determined that his loss would not just be another tragic thing that happened to me that I would turn it into something positive and worthwhile.

Our main areas are Perth, Stirling & Dundee, however thanks to the internet we can offer supports to those further away too. You can find our main page here: https://www.facebook.com/brodiestrust/ we are also on twitter: @BrodiesTrust

We support our ladies in a variety of ways.

•We have a monthly support group meet up (I’d like to make this more frequent by the end of the year) so we need to hire rooms for this to take place. (And supply tea/coffee and biscuits)

•We do one to one counselling either by phone, zoom or in person.

•We help with applying for benefits and housing and advocacy.

•If they wish, we accompany the women to give them moral support at court if they have family court hearings or criminal cases against their ex partner.

•We might buy some groceries or an an electric top up for them, we’ve even paid for B&B accomodation while ladies waited on emergency housing.

•We also do home starter packs of basic household linens, pots & pans, plates & cutlery etc for those women who may need that level of support in a new tenancy.

Basically whatever the women need we’ll do our best and if we can’t we signpost to other organisation that can. Our aim is to support our women with compassion and empathy through the most difficult circumstances. Each woman who comes to us is unique and the help we give is tailored to her needs. Sometimes this means referrals to other organisations for other supports too.

We have been funding things from our own incomes and help from family/friends since we began, however more and more people are contacting us to ask how they can donate so we decided we would accept some support from those who wish to do so.

Last year we recieved a generous donation from Standing For Womens crowdfunder, this helped us immensely and we were able to do so much to help our ladies because of this. We are eternally grateful for the donation and the overwhelming morale boosting support we have received from across the globe in the past year.

As a small unregistered organisation we are legally allowed to receive a limited donation income of £5000 per year.
