Story

The Karen Hill-tribe are a community of primarily subsistence farmers living in one of the most poverty stricken areas of Thailand.

The community are ostracised from the remainder of Thailand's society which has had a horrendous consequential effect on the education and well-being of the community with a mere 25% of the community only reaching second level education. Young girls often leave the community in pursuit of a better life, but to no avail and soon fall into human trafficking. The remainder of the tribe live on an average salary of £1.48 per day which typifies the financial and social hardship the community endures relentlessly.

My fundraising will help contribute towards putting a stop to these hardships. Through partnering with the Karen Hill Tribe foundation I will help build new and more efficient irrigation and water management systems which will improve water quality and thus sanitation for the community. This in turn will help dramatically decrease the likely hood of contracting waterborne diseases and improve the overall health of the tribe. When these systems have been implemented elsewhere the contraction of waterborne diseases (such as typhoid) decreased by a staggering 98%, illustrating their effective nature . Additionally, your donations will help aid the youth population of the tribe through myself and the immersion group helping to teach English and promote second level education in the schools of the community.

Your donations will be gathered and sent directly to the charity which will then in turn be financially invested in the community and the betterment of infrastructure, health, well-being and education of the tribe. I will be sent out on July of 2019 for the duration of the month to help implement these improvements. Upon being there I will be uploading progress and action plan photos which will show you what your charitable contribution is doing for the community and the positive impact it has on individual cases in the community. I would be entirely grateful if you would feel inclined to donate (no matter how small) to the cause as it provides a means of changing the lives of those in need.
