    Story

We are a friendly sailing club that welcomes members and visitors of all ages. We try to encourage new members, especially families. Courses and relaxed sailing sessions are run and enjoyed regularly by a range of people (children and adults).

While we encourage all new members, at present a downfall of our lovely club is the outdated changing rooms. They were 'modernised' a long time ago and so now unfortunately are not adequate for the use we want to offer. For us to continue improving and be accessible to all, we desperately need our changing rooms updated to a modern standard.

Although as a club we offer disabled access, this does not extend to our toilets. The changing room layout is not accessible for anyone in a wheelchair, and nor is it practical for children to get changed/showered at the same time as adults. We also need a baby change area, either in each changing room or in a disabled toilet, at the moment this doesn't exist so it can be hard for parents to change their babies.

We want to change the internal layout of the changing rooms to include a disabled / family toilet and changing area, and whilst we may have enough to start work on this, we have found that we have a serious damp issue with the floor in the changing area. To include the lifting of the floor, resolving the damp issue, and re-laying a floor, we have found that we may need up to £65,000!

We are a non-profit making organisation and our income covers our outgoings with very little left over. For us to raise the amount of money needed for the vital update would take us a very long time and we need them updated as soon as possible. We have raised £30,000 ourselves through members' donations and a fantastic grant of £15,000 from Sport England, but are hoping that people will help us and add to our existing funds.

We have been awarded a grant of £15,000 from Sport England and now have approximately £30,000 towards our project. However, to enable us to resolve a damp issue with the floor, we are in need of further funds.

We're a friendly sailing club in a prime location with a beautiful view, we run sailing courses & a good social calendar. We welcome members/visitors of all ages. Unfortunately, our changing rooms & toilets need updating so they are child friendly & accessible for disabled people
