And I would walk 500 kilometres

And I would run 500 more.

I've been running and walking a fair amount recently, and am also feeling charitable. So, to give myself a goal to continue and also hopefully raise money for a cause close to my heart, I'm setting myself the challenge of running 500k and walking 500k over the next few months. In total, 1000k, which at a realistic rate of 5k per day on average, should take me to roughly the end of June. At the completion point in June, I'm also planning a one off musical fundraiser, hopefully involving many of you, but more of that later.

I want to create a fund to help young brass musicians to help buy suitable instruments. This will be completely inclusive and open to all young brass players in full time education, from primary school age to those in higher education pursuing music. I propose to manage this myself and any interested candidates will simply have to state their case for support. Details to follow.

To get the ball rolling, I'm donating £1,000 myself along with two trumpets from my own collection.

Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated.

Another milestone today, with 400k clocked up. I've also raised 35% of my fundraising target so many thanks to all those who have donated. I'm now accepting applications for the superb brand new Besson Protege Cornet very kindly donated by Buffet Crampon, with further instruments to be announced shortly. If you know someone who would benefit from this, just DM me for details. I'm also in a position to hand out money towards the cost of purchasing an instrument (or accessories). Again just get in touch for details.

As promised I'm now ready to start offering instruments and money for deserving young brass players in need of assistance. Yesterday I had a lovely lunch with Euan Meikle of Buffet Crampon and I'm delighted to say that I have been gifted a brand new Besson Prodige cornet for loan as part of my fundraiser. Many thanks Euan! I will also be starting to hand out money towards the purchase of instruments, and details with follow in a separate post.

Happy Christmas to all our friends. I thought I'd send you a wee update on my fundraising efforts. I've now clocked up my first 100k so I'm well on track. Hopefully you're all feeling festive and charitable and will feel inclined to donate a few pennies. Have a great Christmas.
