In the summer of 2019 I am going to Malawi with 30 other keen scouts. We will be carrying out community work with small schools and villages to help improve their facilities and I would love for you to sponsor me...

The Hampshire scouts have a long history of taking young explorers to Africa, primarily to The Gambia, since 2002, and more recently to Malawi, since 2016, with the main idea being to help others less fortunate, and expose young people to life in a developing country.

During the course of the expedition we will be working mostly with the local schools to improve their learning environments. However we will also be working with nearby villages to complete other requested projects.

On a previous trip to Malawi the explorer scouts converted a dilapidated building into a hostel for 60 girls, enabling them to stay at school and avoid the long and often dangerous daily walk to school. They purchased raw materials and constructed 30 bunk beds. As well as this they created a library from a derelict building and constructed a set of new desks/benches for a whole class.

Every penny of the money raised goes into the sustainable and amazing projects we deliver. Moreover our projects act as a catalyst for further development of the area, as the locals are inspired by what can be done in a short space of time and for little cost. Groups like ours show the locals what can be achieved and give them hope for their future. For example, after the dormitory was created the local community got together to create a kitchen in order to feed the school girls.

I am very lucky to be able to be a part of this amazing trip and am greatly looking forwards to helping a poorer community in Malawi. This trip will be life changing for those in Malawi as we help to improve their quality of life but also for me. I will learn key life skills out there and about how communities function in poorer places. Please help me raise money in aid of this great volunteer run trip.
