Story

Late in 2017 I got the fantastic and amazing news that I had been selected to represent the UK contingent at the World Scout Jamboree in 2019 West Virginia USA.

But my story didn’t start here …

The scouts has always been something that interested me with a focus on fun, challenges and adventure. I joined the Beavers 7 years ago, moving up into the Cubs and then the Scouts. I have learnt many things along the way which has helped me grow in confidence. They have all helped me develop skills like teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment.

At the beginning of 2017 I heard about the World Jamboree. With my passion for adventure this type of event really appealed to me and I decided to do everything I could to get a place. I realised my chances were very slim with over 450 000 scouts in the UK and only 750 places available. I had to go through a tough selection process starting with a long paper application which went through a selection panel. I then had to attend a selection camp where I was questioned and observed.

I can now say I’m a proud member of the South West / West WSJ Unit (Unit 92).

Now the real work begins and I need your help.

We have all been challenged to raise £4000 to attend the event which will go towards the Jamboree Event Fee itself, Travel, Kit and Equipment, Insurance, Administration and Contingency . As a group and as individuals we will be doing a number challenges and events between now and then to raise the amount needed.

I have set up this page for those of you who wish to support me to be able contribute quickly and easily. I'll also be updating this page before, during and after my challenges and events so you will be able to follow me on my journey.

Thank you for reading my story ... I hope you can help me reach my goal, every little helps. My promise to you all is that I will push myself to the limits and do as much as I can to reach this target and make you all proud.

Ps: Here is a little more information about the event and why I am so passionate and excited about it:

The theme for the 24th World Scout Jamboree is Unlock a New World and was developed by the youth bid team, also known as the Dream Team. This theme speaks to the new adventures, cultures, and friendships that will be shared by Scouts from around the world during the 12-day event in North America, a continent often referenced as a “New World.”
