Poverty and environmental degradation pose significant problems to the local community where we live. Bubugo Conservation Trust is working to restore the riverbank with indigenous trees to reduce soil erosion and provide a location for our community beekeeping project, a sustainable source of income for community members. We also run the Riverbank Reading Room- a free public library for all, which runs additional women's literacy classes as well. We also work with our local women's groups to identify sources of income from craft making. All our activities are funded out of our own pocket and any donations to support our efforts in 2017 would be greatly appreciated! This year we hope to establish our Trees and Bees project (approx. £1,200 for training, hives, equipment and tree seedlings), continuing running the Riverbank Reading Room and womens literacy classes (approx. £800 per year) and also trial a community irrigation scheme (approx. £500).
