Story

Buckfastleigh Open Air Pool, Victoria Park, was saved from closure by a group of local residents. With help from a Sport England and other generous donors, they were able to refurbish the pool and since 2015 it has been offering a fun, safe place for people of all ages to get fit and enjoy the many benefits of swimming.

In September, the pool boiler broke down and it will cost £16,000 to buy a new one. The pool manager, Ian, has already raised over £500 and there are some promises of donations from generous local businesses, but there is still a long way to go.

The plan is to raise the money and install the new boiler before the pool's annual Christmas event - the Tropical Boxing Day Splash. This is one of the biggest events of the year, and important in terms of income generation.

Buckfastleigh Open Air Pool provides a vital service for the people of Buckfastleigh, particularly young people. It works with the local primary schools so that all local children can learn to swim. It offer vouchers for free swims to disadvantaged families, working with the local food bank, the local church and the GP surgery.

It costs a lot of money to run and maintain a swimming pool. The good news is that the new boiler will enable the pool to be more energy efficient and resilient. Unfortunately, if the boiler is not fixed, the pool will remain closed.

Thank you for making a donation - your support will make a real difference.
