Weʼre raising £5,000 to Fund a library at Bukit Lawang Trust Education Centre in Sumatra
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
WE are taking part in the 3 Peaks Challenge 29-30 July 2019 - The team consists of Paul, Andrew, Nick and myself so far! WE want to take on this challenge to raise much needed funds for the Trust to create a library for the community. This involves renovating the interior of our community center building, knocking down the wall between two toilets to create one space and putting in book shelves and filling it with books.
Bukit Lawang Trust began in 2003 after the flood that wiped out the village and many people's homes. Since that time we built a community centre and focused on the needs of the community. Education is our main focus as we believe the best route out of poverty is education.
We are planning to make a library in the school that can be used by the whole community. We want to encourage self-education and literacy to improve chances of a better life and alternative options to palm oil farming. We have a free kindergarten Monday - Friday 8am - 10.30am, we offer free afternoon classes in english and green class which is conservation focused. We provide the transportation for the villages to come picking up and dropping the children home. We do field trips to the jungle to take the children to visit the Leuser Ecosystem and understand about the last place on earth where elephants, tigers, rhinos and orangutans live together in the wild. We also do rubbish pick ups and educate on recycling and host an annual 'conservation festival' and 'round table' event.
We would like to complete this project this year. As it is my 40th Birthday and Bukit Lawang Trust turns 16! We wanted to mark it with a fundraising challenge and have got a great team together. We are entirely self funding the trip ourselves so all funds raised go directly to Bukit Lawang Trust for the library. I hope you will consider supporting us for this great cause in Bukit Lawang.
