Young fundraisers, aged 8 and 9, set £250 target to give orphanage kids a day to remember

Two determined young friends — are rolling up their sleeves for children thousands of miles away.

Aged just 8 and 9, the pair are raising money for this summer's Friendship Camp, a holiday held in the foothills of Transylvania for youngsters aged 8 to 13, all of whom come from the orphanage system. Their goal is simple but ambitious: raise £250 to take every child at the Orphanage out for a special day's treat.

To get there, the Bellas are taking on a string of challenges. They'll be making and selling homemade fudge, and pulling on fancy dress to tackle the Okehampton Parkrun 5k. They've even set up an online store full of bespoke items they've designed themselves — mugs, bottles and bags — with all profits going towards the total.

They will be joining the kids at the Friendship Camp, working with Bunătate, a Christian organisation set up and based in Okehampton and Exeter, working in Lipova in Romania and Lăpușna in Moldova. Teams from both will be attending the camp with their families, supporting the children throughout their time away. Supporting these youngsters through projects, aid and outreach over the past 12 years has been a real privilege — but even more exciting is seeing the next generation so motivated to help others their own age who simply haven't had the same opportunities.

It's a real adventure for the kids, and these two are determined to make it special.
