Story
Sussex First Aid Courses Ltd based in Burgess Hill are starting a new initiative working with-in the community raising funds and awareness to supply AED's, also know as Automated External Defibrillators that are a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can deliver an electric shock to the heart to restore a normal rhythm In the event of a Cardiac Arrest, these devices are vital in saving lives.
Approximately 60,000 out of hospital Cardiac Arrests occur in the UK every year and without immediate treatment, 90-95% of victims will die. If a defibrillator and effective CPR is performed within 3-5 minutes of the Cardiac Arrest chances of survival increase from approximately 6% to 74%.
Our aim is to gain the involvement and support of the local community in supplying AEDs and free training in the Burgess Hill area. Raising funds for Defibrillators and giving free CPR First Aid Training we are working with local community centres and business whom have agreed to have a unit installed externally on their premise meaning they will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Garry Perkins Director and HCPC Paramedic stated that "In the event of an emergency cardiac arrest it becomes a community problem and an AED and good CPR can make the difference"
Garry Perkins Director and HCPC Paramedic at Sussex First Aid Courses Ltd is taking the lead in raising awareness on the locations and setting up of new sites of these defibrillators in Burgess Hill.
