Story
Hi Neighbours.
This letter would have been more appropriate 12 months ago prior to Relish, but with community spirit and all of that, I thought I would give it a shot. I hope you all agree.
With the ever changing technology, who knows what will happen, however you are all aware that we have had terrible broadband on the estate. BT/Openreach have made several broken promises over the years, and to finally get the ball rolling, one of our neighbours decided to take action and pay to have the BT green cabinet 29 area upgraded. With Openreach co-funding the cost ended up being roughly £1200
Now before I go any further, the person who paid (Mat Phillips) has not asked for any of this money back and is not aware that i have created this page, so he shall remain nameless for now, however I personally think that if we all chip in a little, he will get his money back. It is quite a large lump sum from anyones pocket, plus we will all get a minimum of at least 50Mbps Broadband and have a choice of ISP’s that use the open reach network to get broadband to our homes.
Openreach advised there are 80 homes connected to the cabinet. I worked it out as 103 homes.
1200 / 103 = £11.65 each
If everyone were to pay £20 each, it would raise £2,060 if there were 103 donations, otherwise £1600 if there are 80 donations. However, i doubt everyone would be able to donate for whatever reason, so if only 50% of the community paid £20, we would hit £800. If anything is left over it could be saved in case Openreach needed some more funds, or if they don't, with the community spirit it could go towards a pint or 2 in the pub.
How did i find out about this. Well I was sent a personal message via the Think Broadband site back in December, this is how i found out that a neighbour (Mat Phillips) had paid to have the cabinet upgraded. We have sent a few emails back and forth, but we have not yet met in person.
This really has been a *selfless act*, and it would show some true community spirit for all of us in Peatmoor if we shared the cost.
p.s, i have never done this before and i am sure it does not come across as professional, but its not meant to be. I will be willing to reply to any questions and share what i know.
Below are all the postcodes that will benefit.

Thank you, and don't forget to tell your neighbours!!
Here is another page view that shows this has been privately funded.

Today I noticed the telecom tariffs / code lookup portal is showing a FTTc live date of November 2018.

14 August 2018
The first sign showing the work is due to start.

Thursday August 30th - Work Commence.
Well as most of you have probably noticed, the workman arrived and started the dig. Here's a few pics to date. The first one is thanks to Howard & Sally.

And a few more.

Monday 3rd September - They're Back.
Bacon Sandwiches for the workers :) Enjoy !
I'm still on a diet, so I cannot have one lol.

Octobre 25th - Openreach confirm that the work is complete and they are accepting orders.

I am now withdrawing the funds and will be passing them over to our neighbour who paid up front.

Thanks again to everyone who chipped in. It was good for me to meet some of you on the doorstep.
This will be one of my last posts on the topic.
Here is an earlier snippet from one of the mails i received from our neighbour.

So its a thanks all round.
Well done Peatmoor :o)

5 years agoAs I can only fit a small amount of text on this page, I thought I’d share a link instead. It’s about having a get together on Saturday October 27th at 3pm. It’s the last post on the link below. https://www.facebook.com/groups/PeatmoorandSparcells/permalink/601237333566706/ It would be great if you could all make it. :o)
