I am a Guide member with 2nd Guide Unit in Stockport District. I am very fortunate to have been selected as a representative of Girlguiding North West England, to be a member of an ICE group going to Finland in April 2019. ICE is an international Community Experience which aims to give girls the opportunity to take part in a community project, whether it be environmental, educational or conservation based. I am part of the ICE group going to help with a project called Kierratys-keskus based in the city of Espoo, which is 10 miles from Helsinki. Essentially, they get crafts, beads, materials etc. from companies that no longer need them and they reuse them to make crafts/items such as bags, clothes and accessories, for children or other people who are less fortunate and cannot afford these items. Whilst I am in Finland, I shall face many new and demanding challenges, have many unique experiences and participate in activities with members of Guiding from another country who are of different cultures and faiths. It will also be an opportunity for me to develop many life and personal skills, to share my knowledge and skills with others and to make international friends. The experience of an international trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me as a member of the largest organization for girls and young women in the UK and as a member of WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts).
