Story
Hiiiii friends
I have been accepted to do two months volunteering at the start of next year with SLV Global to assist in a Mental Health programme run by Psychology graduates in Sri Lanka. (See below for details). I shall be paying all my own travel and expenses but need to make a payment of £1600 to SLV global to participate in the programme. As part of my fundraising I shall be attempting to run a HALF MARATHON in November (25th) in Richmond Park!
little bit about SLV in Sri Lanka…
Sri Lanka is still recovering from a 25-year civil war and the devastating effects of the 2004 tsunami & it's population is desperately in need of psychological support. Mental health problems so often go unrecognised until it’s too late & Sri Lanka has one of the highest suicide rates in the world , partly because there is a negative stigma associated with mental health problems, so they lack the correct support or necessary funding for treatment.
SLV Global works with children, schools and communities in Sri Lanka & other developing countries. Volunteers are placed in psychiatric and community settings to build confidence, educate, run activities and treat those in need of psychological support. They carry out social work in hospital settings, work with a number of schools and initiatives for children with special needs, and take part in/run community outreach programs for children of all ages. These programmes make a huge difference to struggling communities, and use preventative techniques that provide a support basis for young children -- this is massively important for their future wellbeing!
So if you can dig deep and donate something - however little - I promise you it will go towards helping a young person get a better chance in life. Thanks so much,
