Story
My name is Caitlin Pughe i am 14 years old and the school I am at currently, is Silverstone UTC. They are a school that specialise in engineering and business. Through school, I am taking part in a ‘world challenge’ trip to Swaziland in South Africa. This trip will consist of me helping and supporting the local community there, which has been affected by high rates of HIV and aids which has resulted in lots of orphaned children. In a group, we will take an 11 hour flight to Johannesburg and from there it will be a straight 4 hour drive into Swaziland. We will spend just over 2 weeks here and will be responsible for were we sleep as we will have no accommodation booked for us, this means we must find hostels, and places to camp on our own. We must also be responsible for buying and making everything we eat. Throughout most of the trip we will be involved in certain charity tasks such as, painting, construction, refurbishment, teaching, tree planting, conservation, and agricultural work but there will also be opportunity too be involved with other activity such as fetching water, learning how to make maize meal, teaching English, running sports matches and helping out around the village.this will benefit the community and children of Swaziland as well as myself. Towards the end of our charity expedition trip, we will take part in long treks around different parts of the country. We will also be treated to a safari trip with the locals. I believe, that this is a once in a life time opportunity for me and going on this trip could change a lot as, it would make me a much more independent, successful and determined person. It will allow me to challenge myself and explore different ways of living and understand different cultures. Any donations and support, I will be grateful for and it would be massively appreciated as this trip will help me in the future with thing like job interviews and more. In order for me to achieve my goal of going on this trip I must raise just over £3000 by myself within a year with out any help from my parents pockets. The money raised, will be used to pay for the trip itself such as flights, food, health, insurances, appropriate clothing, world challenge services. It will also go towards any accommodation or toiletry services we might need to pay for as well as local charities. I will be trying my hardest to gain as much support and make the money I need, through various fundraising activities. I will be paying the money through out the months in lump sums . Thank you very much to those who donate and are supportive by following me with my challenging yet adventurous gurney of a lifetime. it would be much also much appreciated if you could keep me in mind and recommend me for any possible positions for paid work or suggest other fundraising ideas. Thank you!!
