Story
*EDIT: thank you so much to all those that have donated so far- we really didn't expect to make our initial target so fast! We have now decided to try raise an extra 245 pounds for 10 more sleeping bags and ground sheets. Thank You!
In August 2019, myself and Zeynep visited the refugee camps that remain in Calais to undertake research on the conditions in which these people were living in. You can see a short film in conjunction with the work we did above.
Despite a lack of news coverage, there remains hundreds of families and individuals living in camps with limited access to facilities. Many of these people would not be alive had it not been for the efforts of charities who are continuously providing hot food, clean water and donations to these people.
As summer draws to a close, we are hoping to raise money to provide 20 sleeping bags and 20 tarpaulin ground sheets, both on the 'urgently needed' list provided by the charity Help Refugees, for people living in these camps. These will be purchased through Leisure Fayre who generously provide a 20% discount on these items and send them directly to the warehouses in Calais for distribution in the camps. For more information please see the following: https://www.leisurefayre.com/shop/charity/help-refugees/
We would really appreciate any support you can give. We would also like to encourage anyone interested in helping out to consider volunteering their time in the camps. Information on how to do this can be found on charities' websites such as Help Refugees. Thank you :) Lizzy & Zeynep.
