Story

Callan Rogers, a 28-year-old, has been fighting cancer since being diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 26 in September 2022. The cancer had spread to 14 different areas, including the lungs. In the last two years, he has undergone five different chemotherapy treatments, which have eventually stopped working, including surgery to remove the right testicle at Bart's and St George’s Hospital.

One of these treatments was high-dose chemo with a blood cell transplant, which he underwent twice. This treatment caused sores and bleeding in the mouth, making it impossible to eat for a month. He went from weighing 82kg to 54kg within two weeks. The treatment also caused blindness, hearing loss, and severe nerve damage in his hands and feet. Callan had to learn to walk again and gradually put the weight back on.

Six months after this treatment, his eyesight fully recovered, including the sores in the mouth, hearing, and the nerves started to heal. Unfortunately, the cancer came back in his lung. So, he started a low-level chemo that affected his liver quite severely, but after three months, this treatment stopped working.

After a few months of CT scans and blood tests, the results showed that the cancer in his lung was 25mm and Callan qualified to go ahead with clinical trials.

In preparation for this treatment, Callan has been changing his diet, doing a lot of cardio—including a Half Marathon in March 2024—and coming to Be Superhuman for all his recovery needs. He wants to give himself the best chance possible to beat cancer. Since the tumor is in his lung, it is beneficial for him to use the hyperbaric oxygen chamber regularly alongside his treatment. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy helps fight off infections and promotes faster healing. Unfortunately, the hospital cannot offer this, but Be Superhuman can.

To support Callan's journey, Be Superhuman will match any funds raised for his treatment. Additionally, to raise money for Callan, we will be organising a 10 km fundraising run on the 28th of July. Everyone is welcome to join the run. Please contact Be Superhuman, Upminster or Callan directly for more information!
