Story

We are building an Orphanage and Creche in Mkushi Zambia for Orphans at the Itala charity school in Memory of Cameron Forster.

Cameron Forster was a charismatic, caring and extremely positive young man, who was tragically killed aged 21, whilst training to become an RAF fighter pilot. His estate has been donated and money is being raised to establish an orphanage and nursery school and to support a charity run school in Itala, in the remote Zambian village of Mkushi.

The school provides opportunity and hope for over 900 pupils, half of whom are orphans as a result of the AIDS pandemic. A small orphanage will provide not just shelter, but give some of these children a sense of belonging and family.

All money raised goes to the Itala Foundation Charity, which funds and manages the school and all of the projects enabled by donations. These include projects aimed at making the school self-sustaining in the long term, and to teach young adults employable skills. The charity provides teaching resources, books and other basic equipment and supports extra-curricular activities: a netball team, football team and choir. Future projects include the building of long-drop toilets and a school office with secure storage.

The Itala school lies at the heart of the Mkushi community with Church groups and children from other schools visiting in the evening to take advantage of the fact that there are lights so they can continue their work. It has several principals:

Education is free , It is open to boys and girls of all ages .

The education programme at least matches that of the state system .

Financial sponsorship is available to train teaching staff.

Cameron’s Orphanage Project is for Cameron; it is his legacy. It is for some of the world’s poorest children; to give them a better life and hope for a fulfilled future, and it is for you; no matter how small your contribution may be, do not underestimate the power you have to make a change in the world.
