Story

We’re going on a prostate pilgrimage!

‘What kind of of weird-ass pilgrimage is that?!’ I hear you ask, and ‘will it be as painful as it sounds?!’

In May, Pete and I are setting out to run last 100km of the Camino de Santiago - the ancient pilgrim’s path in Northern Spain - starting in Sarria and ending in Santiago di Compostelo. We’ll be running for 5 days, with the longest day measuring a healthy 28km (17.4 miles).

We hope to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK and the Weston Park Cancer Charity - to give thanks for their invaluable work, from which we have personally benefitted during my dad’s (Keith’s) diagnosis and treatment for the disease.

Since his diagnosis in September 2015, we’ve become acutely aware that although difficult, ours has been one of the more positive cancer stories and we are mindful that a number of very close friends have experienced far worse.

That is why we are also raising money for Weston Park Cancer Charity, as they provide such hugely important care to people suffering all different types of cancer, when it is needed most.

We might be runners, but this is still going to be a challenge for us. Here’s why:

* We don’t normally carry a week’s worth of clothes on our backs

* We don’t normally have to wash our underwear in the sink

* This will be the longest that I (Hannah) have ever run in a week

* There is a distinct possibility that Pete will end up running at least some of the distance carrying two backpacks

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Please donate if you feel you want to, any amount will be very gratefully received. Finally, wish us luck… I have a feeling we may need it!
