    Story

Construction of Health Centre in Bawum for the Underprivileged in Bafut
80 % off the underprivileged population in Cameroon is found in rural areas. These include the ageing, the orphans and people living below the poverty margin(USD 1.25). Cameroon in general is hit by the following diseases:Malaria, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, cholera and many others which cause high death rates in rural communities in Cameroon. 85+ out of 1000 people suffer from malaria in Cameroon (World malaria Report 2015). With 550 000 - 690 000 people living with HIV (UNAIDS 2015). 50% of people in rural communities do not have access to health care facilities or proper drugs for their treatment. This has been the cause of more than 40% of deaths in rural communities. Proper health care facilities and accessible to all are needed.
Bawum community has a population of over ten thousand. About 80% of the people resort to treatment of their illnesses with unprescribed drugs and traditional methods which at times lead to complications and even death. More than 60 % of the people are transported to the hospital only as a last resort in a critical condition and even when transported there at times, about 30% of them are abandoned there due to lack of financial means from their families to support the health costs. About 75% of pregnant women do not attend antenatal clinic regularly. 50% start late and are unable to follow up all the necessary tests and treatments as stipulated for them like chirography, lab tests and buying of prescribed drugs. More than 50% of these people live below the poverty line ($1.25) which contributes to poor medical follow-up and treatment. CANU 'Health for ALL' Facility will offer access to medications and proper health, health education through campaigns, free screening and medical counselling to the people of Bawum Bafut.
