Story
Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his four comrades gave their lives in their attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole but more than that, they were also determined that their expedition would be for scientific discovery and not just national pride. The people of Cardiff were proud that the expedition had chosen their city as the port of departure for their journey south. Cardiff would have been the port to which they would have returned if they had been successful in their endeavour.
A wonderful and moving memorial to their expedition stands at the entrance of the dock from which they sailed on the 15th June 1910 but it is now in desperate need of repair following years of weather and neglect.
I hope to raise as much money as possible to pay towards its repair and future care by the Cardiff Bay Harbour Authority, who inform me that they are currently seeking funding to carry out the repairs to the memorial.
In a bid to raise funds towards this cause, I intend to ride my scooter to the South Pole*. I realise the journey will be long and hazardous but at least I can look forward to a pint of Guiness at the end of my expedition! Therefore I should be grateful if you would kindly consider sponsoring me. (Please be assured that none of the funds raised will be used to pay for my expedition or any personal costs).
P.S.* The South Pole is a pub in Southern Ireland!
