Story
Carbon's Crusade is an event being held by Anil's family and friends to continue his name and to create a legacy in his honour. We will be holding a charity fundraiser on the 8th February 2020 at The Pilot Public House, Greenwood Avenue in Hull,to raise money for both Hull4Heroes and Andy's Man Club in Hull.
We plan to have a family fun day during the day, with various stalls including cake stalls, tombola's, raffles, face painting and bouncy castle plus more....
Later in day/evening we will be having a disco/karaoke with bigger raffle prizes and an auction.
Why are we doing this?
On 9th February 2019 Anil Carbon took his own life after struggling with PTSD and depression. He served in the British Army for 8 years, and completed a tour of Afghanistan in 2010. He was later medically discharged on medical grounds relating to a foot issue.
Anil struggled to adjust to civilian life, and after receiving care for his depression, he enrolled himself on a degree with The Open University. He began working but did not stay longer than a year with each company and he struggled to find his place and feel settled.
In September 2017, after hurricane Maria devastated his homeland of Dominica, Anil's mental health deteriorated and Anil attempted to take his life. He was soon placed under the care of the local mental health teams, and was put on medication for his depression and psychosis.
Even though Anil received input from the relevant services, his friends and family believe more could have been done to avoid this tragedy, and are doing this event in the hope that his death with serve to help others. We are hoping to raise more awareness around men's mental health and how veterans struggle to adjust to civilian life.
As we have previously stated, a partial amount will be used to fund the event, but all monies raised on the day, and from his page will be spilt between the two chosen registered charities.
