Story

I was recently diagnosed with a genetic heart condition known as Long QT Syndrome. This is one of the leading causes of sudden death in young people and as there are often no symptoms, it can easily go undiagnosed.

My Mother died from sudden death almost 30 years ago, death certificate states of 'natural causes'. Through the cardiac screening event I attended earlier this year, not only do I have the reassurance that I am on the necessary treatment, but we also have the answer to why my Mum died suddenly.

"Every week in the UK around 12 young people (under the age of 35) die suddenly from a previously undiagnosed heart condition. 80% of these deaths will occur with no prior symptoms. This is why screening is so important" (CRY).

With £5500 I will be able to set up a cardiac screening event, which is staffed by professionals and a cardiologist will be present to review each ECG, and provide a consultation to each person afterwards. I aim to use this for young girls playing football at grassroots level. My daughter is a keen footballer and screening at this level is not mandatory.

Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
