    Story

Since the Ted Senior Foundation was set up last year, £140,000 has been raised in Ted's memory. This is in no small part as a result of the magnificent efforts of Ted’s friends and family who have run marathons, cycled hundreds of miles, sold and bought foundation merchandise, put on amazing events and donated beyond generously in honour of a man who has left such an overwhelmingly positive legacy.

The trustees (a combination of close friends and family) had a choice to make when deciding how the money would be best spent. Whilst they knew a huge impact could be made purely through grant-making, it was decided that the money should be put towards a tailored service which reflected Ted’s compassion and kindness of spirit. In light of how he cared so much for others, his love of sport and sport’s unrivalled ability to draw people together, “Ted’s Friends” was born.

The premise of the service is to have one individual within each sports club at University who has undergone training in mental health first aid (paid for by the TSF). The individual is to make him/herself known to the rest of the club at the start of the season, and provide an anonymous, non-clinical outlet to any member of the club who may be struggling with their mental health. There will of course, be a substantial support network in place for the “Ted’s Friend”, so as to ensure the burden of the problems of others does not weigh too heavy.

James Mitchell (Charity and Welfare Officer 2019-20): We as a club have chosen to support the Ted Senior Foundation this year:

This decision was made collectively to ensure the Cardiff Meds' could do our bit to aid the efforts of Ted's family and friends, some of which we know as both current members and old boys of the club. In addition, although we pride ourselves as a supportive club of good friends, we understand that mental health affects a staggering number of students and is often hidden from plain sight. As a club, we believe "Ted's Friend" is a massively important campaign and one that we are incredibly proud to represent.

To finish the fundraising efforts for the year, roughly 20 current members of the club will be cycling from coast to coast in Wales; From the Stag Inn (the Northernmost pub in Wales) to The Ocean Lounge (the Southernmost pub in Wales), a distance of roughly 220 miles.

As there is currently no justgiving page set up for the charity we will be using this platform before redirecting the funds directly to the charity at the end of the season.

All is now booked and ready to go! Today marks one week until team 1 set off and is also the day we made it past our second target of £5000! I've raised our target to a very ambitious £7500, but with one month to go and the bulk of our media on the page yet to come, we hope we can keep spreading the word and hit this figure! All the best, James x

Made the decision to raise this to an ambitious £5000, although with plenty of ideas to come to keep you all engaged and entertained on the instagram account, we believe this is achievable. All your donations and support mean so much. Theres a real buzz amongst the team and everyone is fully invested and training hard. Keep sharing the word and helping us help TSF! Thank you x
