Story

Cardiff Stroke Support was formed in 2012 and is a non-profit organisation run completely by volunteers that supports stroke survivors to regain some semblance of their pre-stroke life. Unfortunately, a high percentage of stroke survivors often suffer with speech, communication or/and mobility issues, which can isolate them within their own homes. Many of our service users only leave their home to come to our Stroke Support Group, and more importantly, only use their speech when socialising with the other group members.

At the weekly Group meetings they can feel confident to “have a go” as everyone is in the same boat or can certainly empathise with them. Can you imagine how frustrating it would be, to try and communicate with people, with only a single word? Knowing what you want to say and not being able to communicate your words to others.

We at Cardiff Stroke Support try to rebuild service users self esteem to enable them to reclaim part of their lives that have been taken from them by their Stroke.
