Story

EIVISSA VETERINARY CENTRE

Care 4 Cats – After almost 20 years of working in Ibiza – we can now announce that we are to open our own Eivissa Veterinary Centre at Calle Petunias, Siesta, Santa Eulalia, Ibiza.

To open our own clinic has been a dream for many years, and will make Care 4 Cats more prominent in Ibiza as a permanent clinic and a place where all our work will be done for the feral cats, and we will at last have a meeting place for any visitors to come and meet us.

This Eivissa Veterinary Centre will be open to the public for their pets and will also neuter, rescue and treat the feral and abandoned cats of Ibiza. This means that the work we do for the private clients will go a long way towards our costs for the feral cats where most of the work is done without donations.

We are aiming to commence renovations in November 2019, with our grand opening scheduled for March 2020, when we will be having HUGE thank you party to celebrate and all will be invited. Stay tuned for more exciting news on this.

ABOUT US

Care 4 Cats is a UK registered charity (Charity Registration No. 1106345) committed to protecting Ibiza’s homeless cats – our core focus being Trap | Neuter | Return initiatives. We are also involved in other areas in our ongoing mission to help and improve the lives of Ibiza’s street cats. Care 4 Cats have neutered over 20,000 cats in over 18 years (the only humane way to help them). Our work is vital because one un-neutered female can be responsible for the births of more than 420,000 cats in 7 years.

We are funded entirely by donations, and consist solely of volunteers.

OUR APPEAL

This premises has been a veterinary clinic for the past 15 years and it already has quite a lot of equipment that we have purchased as part of the sale. However, to modernise the clinic to answer the plight for the cats of the White Island and to exceed the expectations of our pet loving private clients, we are appealing to you, our new and existing caring supporters, for donations towards covering the costs of our refurbishment and for the required equipment below.

Can you help?

CARE 4 CATS CHAIRPERSON - ANGELA COLLINS

1999 – Angela Collins looked out of her Ibiza hotel window and saw a bedraggled white cat; crying for food and water with dirty, matted long hair. The breakfast buffet was robbed of ham and Angela phoned the RSPCA International as her hotel had no interest. A kind lady named Wendy Calavalle came and took the starving cat to her vet, and a quick conversation told Angela that this was one of thousands left to their own devices to live or die in large colonies, sometimes made up of hundreds of cats. There was no organised help available and because the colonies kept growing, poisoning was rife. A tragic end for many of the cats was commonplace.

2000 – Angela founded Care 4 Cats Ibiza, and a team of vets, nurses and one trapper came to Ibiza. In 10 days they trapped, neutered and returned over 300 cats, and have returned twice a year since. For some years during this period, the charity worked in a disused veterinary clinic, until the authorities deemed it illegal.

2010 - A group of residents in Ibiza started becoming volunteers for Care 4 Cats. Allowing our Trap | Neuter | Return program to become a year round enterprise, rather than just the twice a year missions of yesteryear. This also increased our ability to bring greater vet care for sick or injured cats, 365 days a year. For all of our increased work, we have relied heavily upon the local vets and although they have been very supportive, it has doubled our running costs.

Today – Neutering campaigns remain the only humane solution, and our work must continue until the situation has normalised. We are already seeing vast improvements, reducing the size and improving the health of hundreds of colonies, but if we stop things will quickly deteriorate.

This is why we are campaigning to open our own clinic.

OUR AMAZING CARE 4 CATS VOLUNTEERS

Over the last twenty years our volunteers and physical support upon the White Island has come along way and our core members have consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty. Doing their very best for the rescue & management of stray cats & kittens and raising thousands of Euros for Care 4 Cats every year. These are our unsung heroes and deserve our greatest respect and deepest gratitude.

Without their trapping work, volunteering & fundraising efforts, cat & kitten nursing, fostering and administration assistance, we could not possibly achieve all that we have for the cats of Ibiza. Thank you very much to each and every one of you (both past and present).

ADAM ILKO, CARE 4 CATS CAMPAIGN MANAGER - ABOUT ME

I was introduced to and began volunteering for Care 4 Cats Ibiza back in the summer of 2016, when I was building my island massage business and preforming stray cat research for my Animal Rescue App, FurzAid.

My colleague and I offered "Pay As You Please" chair massages at the Care 4 Cats market stall in San Rafael and donated all money raised to this amazing charity. Since this introduction, I have been back every year to help with cat rescue and their wonderful TNR program. Now as the Care 4 Cats Campaign Manager, I am delighted to be helping them to achieve their long anticipated dream of opening their own clinic.

Please help me, help them to achieve their goal, by DONATING TO, SUPPORTING and SOCIALLY SHARING our campaign, far and wide. Thank you.
