Story

Carfield Primary school wants to reestablish their library. Libraries are where children get hooked on reading, inspired and whisked away on their imagination. At the moment the Carfield School library is an underused storage and quiet room with only couple of dusty shelves without many books. We'd like it to be a space of inspiration and tranquillity in an otherwise very busy school.

I know there seem to be many grander and more noble causes in the world but a love of reading can literaturely change their lives (like what I did there?) The school has been severely hit by funding cuts and could really do with a break! Please help us make a lasting impact in the education of the 600 pupils at Carfield Primary School.

The concept is to create an indoor woodland, somewhere the pupils can travel to a different place, a place of imagination and mystery. To this end we have designed an interior which uses real birch trees to form reading circles and cosy dens amongst the shelves of books. Now we need to raise the money to fund it's construction.

The project is being funded by Carfield Friends, a registered charity (charity no. 1183465) with a large lump sum of support from Dark Peak Gear (www.darkpeakgear.com) and the rest from public donations. Dark Peak are a small local company who design and manufacture feather down jackets. They are generously supporting me as well as homeless charities by donating a jacket for every sale they make.

To raise money for the project I will be completing a sponsored rock climbing challenge, to climb 1350m of rock routes (the height of Ben Nevis) at Stanage Edge in the Peaks on 10th August. It will be attempted without ropes, in a single day and no climb will be repeated, which equates to 113 separate routes in 1 day. If people would like to sponsor me please give generously.
