Story

Over the past year I have become more aware of Muscular Dystrophy as a condition. I have to admit I never knew anything about this condition and never realised how much it can affect both an adult or a child.

There are 9 recognised types of muscular dystrophy. It doesn't care how old you are and often affects children. While all 9 carry different symptoms etc they all have the same thing in common. They affect the bodies production of dystrophin and how the body copes physically with simple tasks that most people take for granted.

One of the 9 is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It affects male children and can limit their physical movements and ability drastically by the age of 10 or younger. My explanation doesn't begin to explain how DMD affects children and their families however like many conditions, if you google Muscular Dystrophy and look into the different types that can affect the body you will come across a bleak description of each. This is especially true for DMD. However from my research I now know that these descriptions are somewhat becoming dated. There is a brighter future ahead when we talk about Muscular Dystrophy. It just needs time, science and funding.

Many AMAZING professionals have been working tirelessly to try and find a cure for the many forms of muscular Dystrophy. While there is currently no cure there has recently been some exciting developments with regards to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Clinical trials have started and they are already seeing positive results. These trials work towards helping children develop a synthetic form of Dystrophin. This will allow them to live a life with DMD and do simple things like skip, jump, ride a bike and run with ease. All the simple things that parents enjoy seeing their children enjoy.

These clinical trials are seeing fantastic outcomes and I would greatly appreciate any amount you can donate as I would like to put this money towards progressing the trials for DMD, specifically in Great Ormond street. This money will hopefully allow more and more children and families benefit from the positive impact and hopefully we will start seeing more positive future for Muscular Dystrophy.
