Story
Carley is 20 years old, registered blind and statemented special needs, she was born with focal cortical dsplasia which affected her sight and brain. She has attended special needs schools since she was 7 years. Three years ago she was offered a place at Queen Alexandra College for Blind and Special Needs, one of only 5 Blind specialist colleges in the country.
Sandwell LA have consistently refused to do an EHC plan which is required by law for the last 3 years, or offer an alternative, it has taken this long to get before a tribunal, the hearing is set for 18th December 2017. There is no funding for representation at tribunal which would mean Carley would be up against a team of lawyers from Sandwell LA.To provide her with a specialist SEN solicitor and expert medical witness will cost approximately one thousand pounds. Carleys income is DLA and her mum is her full time carer so this is a massive amount to find for her at such short notice.
Carley is currently awaiting her own Guide dog and is looking forward to going to college hopefully soon for an education and doing something meaningful with her life. Thanks for reading.
