Story
The Gillespie Centre is situated at the heart of the Biggar community. The café provides a variety of snacks, drinks and meals at reasonable prices and is appreciated by both residents and visitors to the town. A variety of organisations use the facilities including Knit & Natter, Luncheon Club, Fitness Groups, Dance Classes, Support Groups, Spanish Classes, Bite & Blether for folk with dementia, Youth Organisations (Brownies, Rainbows) and Walking Groups. A small play area is situated in the café which is enjoyed by younger visitors and second hand books are available for sale in the bell tower. The team seek to 'serve the community' and this is only possible because of the commitment of forty plus volunteers and small staff team who give of their time and energy to undertake serving in the café, administration, maintenance and so much more.
This Centre has recently suffered two break-ins and now urgently needs to renew our security systems and repair the resulting damage. Initial support has been from our local electrician and joiner but further work is needed. It was suggested that I set up a 'Just Giving' page. I am hoping that this will give people in the community, and beyond, the opportunity to help the staff team and volunteers solve the challenges faced as a result of the break-ins.

6 years agoYour encouragement and financial gifting to the Gillespie Centre appeal has been greatly appreciated. The Just Giving link will end tomorrow so we wanted to take this opportunity to express sincere thanks for your help. The work on securing the building has started and we are now on the journey to adding further security. With thanks!
