Story

As a nurse working on an Oncology unit I have seen the devastating effects a diagnosis of malignant melanoma can have on people. Dr Ajaz is a Consultant Oncologist whom I work with, and he and his team are conducting research into immunotherapy to treat malignant melanoma. There are more and more successful immunotherapy treatments for melanoma, however, there remains 30% of patients for whom the treatment does not work. I would like to raise funds towards funding a PhD student for 3 years to help with this vital research.

Melanoma is the most serious skin cancer, affecting more and more people each year. Many are unaware how deadly the disease can be, despite ongoing research efforts towards a cure.

Story FMR has been established to promote and preserve the health of the general public by raising awareness of all areas relating to skin cancer including it's risks, prevention and treatment and supporting research into skin cancers including melanoma, it's treatment and cure and to publish the useful results of such research.

FMR are determined to make a difference to the lives of people affected by melanoma and other skin cancers, whose stories have moved us deeply and inspired the development of this charity and will ensure that the maximum possible amount of donations we receive is spent on research.
