We are looking for support to help us get the ball rolling on a brand new Read Easy group in Barnet. We know that almost 5 million adults in the UK can’t read at all, or struggle with everyday reading, and we’re passionate about changing that at a local level with our proven, confidential programme of free, one-to-one, volunteer-led professionally trained adult reading coaching using a phonetic reading system designed specifically for adults.

Our new local Read Easy Barnet is affiliated to the national charity READ EASY UK, but each individual voluntary group needs to raise their own funding. Because every team member in Read Easy Barnet is a volunteer we just need finance for items such as reading materials, coaching venue hire, training, promotional materials. etc

Help enable adults in Barnet with poor or no reading skills to overcome the many barriers that lack of reading skills presents; including difficulty in finding or applying for jobs, not being able to have a driving licence, feeling disconnected from the community, unable to participate in social media, feeling lonely, isolated, and embarrassed; inability to read to grandchildren, difficulty in running own financial affairs, filling out forms, etc

Learning to read as an adult can be life-changing. The benefits can extend beyond the individual and enable families to break the inter-generational cycle of literacy difficulties. Help us to help those adults in Barnet to reach their full potential and break down those barriers today. Whatever you can spare would be very much appreciated.
